Welcome to my homepage! My name is Terri Simmons and I am the school counselor at the North Canton Middle School. I have been the counselor in North Canton for 11 years. Prior to becoming a school counselor, I taught for Perry Local Schools in grades 1 and 2. Most of my teaching experience took place at Genoa Elementary. With both experiences combined, I have a total of 19 years in education.
I began my post-secondary education at the University of Akron. I graduated from there with a bachelor degree in Elementary Education. I am certified in grades 1-8. I also completed a minor degree in psychology. After graduation, I added a reading validation to my certificate, which means I am certified in reading for grades 1-12.
In 1996, I decided to begin my master's degree in school counseling. I graduated from Walsh University in 1999. I returned to Walsh University in the Fall of 2005 to begin the course work for clinical counseling. I am happy to say that I received my license in Clinical Counseling in April, 2007. In addition to counseling, I am a certified mediator with the Stark County Family Courts. Also, I'm presently a professional counselor at Vista Psychological & Counseling Centre, Inc. in North Canton where I work with children, adolescents and families.
It is such an enjoyment having the ability to work in both fields at a school setting as well as a mental health practice with children, adolescents and families.
Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering and doing mission work for various organizations such as Safe Haven, LoveCanton and the Refuge of Hope. I am also a youth leader in the Sr. High at my church.
